Twitter’s Outrageous Terms Of Service

evil-twitter-birdIn the last few days, Bravest Hero and father of skepticism ElevatorGATE*  got into a bit of hot water when delicate flower Ana Mardoll** got mad at Storify CEO Xavier Damman*** because Ana brought herself to the attention of ElevatorGATE, and wanted to blame someone else for it. The salient parts of this backstory can be found in these two Storify pages: one by ElevatorGATE, and one by LazySavant. John Scalzi (@scalzi on Twitter) recently wrote a blog entry on Storify’s Terms of Service.

But what of Twitter’s Terms of Service? Surely they must be even more restrictive. Storify’s just an echo chamber and storage facility. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Twitter’s TOS all but comes out and says “expect to be offended, and we’re not going to do a thing about it”:

You understand that by using the Services, you may be exposed to Content that might be offensive, harmful, inaccurate or otherwise inappropriate, or in some cases, postings that have been mislabeled or are otherwise deceptive. Under no circumstances will Twitter be liable in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, any errors or omissions in any Content, or any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted, emailed, transmitted or otherwise made available via the Services or broadcast elsewhere.

Shouldn’t it be Twitter whom the Social Justice Snowflakes should be taken to task for enabling people like ElevatorGATE and, if modesty permits, this reporter?

… Or maybe Storify should change its TOS to be more like Twitter’s!
